President Rupiah Banda Wednesday donated an assortment of items and K5 million cash to a Kabompo couple that recently appealed for assistance to raise their triplets.
According to an e-statement sent to the Watchdog by Kennedy Limwana, the President was touched after reading the story in the Sunday Mail of December 19, 2010 about the couple’s plight and felt compelled to assist.
The woman, Emelda Chikamba of Chikamba Village in Kabompo, gave birth to the identical triplets in June last year and the family has been facing challenges in looking after the children. Apart from the triplets, the family has five other children.
President Banda appealed to well-wishers to go out of their way and assist the vulnerable during the Christmas period.
So far, Shoprite Checkers, Pick ‘n’ Pay, Pep Stores and Zambia Sugar have responded with a donation of assorted goods.
The Head of State said people should show love to others during this festive season as it was a time for giving.
