President Rupiah Banda is expected to travel to Uganda next Sunday.
Mr. Banda is scheduled to attend the next SMART Partnership Dialogue in that country next week.
His spokesperson Dickson Jere told the Watchdog that ‘president Banda will be accompanied to Uganda by First Lady Madam Thandiwe Banda and some senior Government officials. The President will return to Lusaka after attending the meeting.’
Mr. Banda is the current chairperson of the SMART partnership. He will handover the chairmanship to Uganda ruler Yoweri Museveni at the next meeting.
Uganda is hosting this year’s SMART Partnership Global Dialogue . The meeting will discuss the global financial crisis and other global challenges affecting developing economies.
The dialogue would be hosted in partnership with the Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, from July 26-29.
Over 20 countries, mainly from the Commonwealth countries in eastern and southern Africa, are expected to attend the dialogue.
Meanwhile, president Banda will this Friday July 24, 2009 leave for a two-day working visit to Luapula Province where he is also expected to grace this year’s Mutomboko Ceremony of the Lunda people.
