Republican president Rupiah Banda has welcomed the acquittal of Second republican president Fredrick Chiluba of all the corruption charges he was facing.
Meanwhile president Banda has bestowed the status of State Counsel on opposition liberal party president Sakwika Sikota, new solicitor general Abydi Shonga and director of public prosecutions Chalwe Mchenga.
Speaking Tuesday morning, when he conferred the status of state counsel on the trio and when he swore in Hilda Chibomba as supreme court justice and Minerva Tembo as A commissioner at the electoral commission of Zambia, president Banda thanked the Zambian people for accepting the decision of the court in Dr. Chiluba’s case.
He says Zambians where anxious to see what will happen to Dr. Chiluba and that he is happy that the former president has been acquitted.
Yesterday Second republican president Fredrick Chiluba was acquitted of all the corruption charges he was facing by a Lusaka magistrate court.
This is in the case in which Dr Chiluba was separately charged with former access financial services directors Aaron Chungu and Faustina Kabwe with the theft of us$500,000 public funds during the time he served as president.
