President Rupiah Banda is in Eastern Province to attend the burial of Milanzi MP Reuben Banda who died in Lusaka on Friday last week.
President Banda is accompanied by First Lady Thandiwe Banda and landed in Mfuwe from South Africa.
The President was in Ethiopia where he attended the African Union Summit before flying to South Africa for medical checkup.
Mr. Banda described the passing on of Mr. Banda as a great loss to the nation because he was a humble and dedicated worker.
He urged MMD members in the province to remain united as they mourn the late MP who died at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka following injuries sustained during a road traffic accident.
President Banda cautioned MPs to drive with care as many lives have been lost in the recent past due to road traffic accidents in the country.
Mr. Banda was welcomed by MMD National Secretary Katele Kalumba, Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani, Eastern Province Minister Isaac Banda, senior government officials and MMD Party cadres.
The late Mr. Banda would be put to rest at his village in Milanzi Constituency in Chief Kawaza’s chiefdom in Katete District today.
