RB in Mansa for Umutomboko

MWATA.6281627President Rupiah Banda arrived has arrived in Mansa for the 2009 Umutomboka ceremony in Mwansabombwe on Saturday.

President Banda who was aboard the Zambia Airforce (ZAF) Aircraft touched down at exactly 15:00 hours in the company of his wife , Thandiwe.

Communications and Transport minister Geoffrey Lungwangwa, Sports, Youth and Child development minister Angela Cifire, Community Development minister Micheal Kaingu , Chief Whip Vernon M wanga and Senior Chief Mukuni are some of the people in the presidential delegation.

Provincial minister Dr Boniface Kawimbe, Permanent Secretary Jazzman Chikwakwa and other senior provincial government and departmental heads were on hand to receive the President.

However, when he disembarked the plane, Mr Banda used the opportunity to see Chief Mwansakombe of the Ngumbo speaking people before he was evacuated to Lusaka for specialist treatment at the University Teaching Hospital.

And in his welcome remarks, Provincial MMD chairperson Chibwe Sakansha thanked President Banda for appointing former Luapula Province Women Chairperson Stella Nkantya as Zambia’s new ambassador to Malawi.

Mr Sakansha said the MMD in the province was also grateful to Mr Banda for appointing former Luapula Province minister Maybin Mubanga as High Commissioner to the DR Congo.

He also said during President Banda rule, the Province has witnessed notable infrastructure developments such as schools, clinics and roads particularly the pedicle road which has completely been refurbished with the help of DANIDA.

According to a programme made available to ZANIS in Mansa this morning, President Banda will tomorrow attend a radio programme with a community radio station, Radio Yangeni at 09:00 after which he will depart for the Airport for de0parture for Senior Chief Mwata Kazembe ‘s palace at Mwansabombwe.

On arrival at 11:45 hours, Mr Banda will have a courtesy call on the senior Chief after which a lunch on will be held in his honour at Lufubu lodge.

At 12:30 hours the President will depart Lufubu for the main arena at 13:00 hours. Mr Banda is at 15:30 scheduled to depart Mwansabombwe for Mansa for his departure back to Lusaka exactly at 16:15 hours and arrive at City Airport in Lusaka an hour later.

Luapula Province Minister Dr. Boniface Kawimbe early this week inspected works on the Umutomboko Traditional Ceremony main arena in Mwansabombwe.

The arena has been worked on by the Road Development Agency (RDA) and Rural Roads Unit (RRU) with support from Luapula provincial administration in readiness for the Traditional Ceremony.

And all is set for this year’s Mutomboko ceremony of the Lunda people in Mwansabombwe of Luapula province.

Many stakeholders who include government and the private sector such as Zain Zambia have pumped in millions of kwacha to ensure the successful holding of the traditional.
