President Rupiah Friday held closed-door talks with Joseph Kabila President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the security situation in the Great Lakes Region.
President Banda, who is current chairman of the International Conference on the Great Lakes (ICGL), met with President Kabila in Maputo, Mozambique where they discussed a number of issues concerning the Great Lakes region ahead of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the month end.
According to Dickson Jere, President Banda” press aide, President Banda is expected to present a Report to the AU Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government in his capacity as Chairman of the Great Lakes Region. President Banda is soon expected to meet with Rwandan President, His Excellency, Mr. Paul Kagame, as part of the ongoing consultation process on the Great Lakes.
President Banda, who was in Mozambique for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Troika Summit, has since returned to Lusaka. While in Maputo, the President also held talks with the Prime Minister of Swaziland Mr. Barnabas Dlamini and his delegation on Thursday night.
