RB, Lungu finally topple MMD’s Nevers Mumba

MMD president Dr. Nevers Mumba was yesterday dramatically overthrown from his position in a bloodless coup that was engineered by former President Rupiah Banda and President Edgar Lungu. After this, Mutati and RB will now deliver MMD to PF.

In a sham of a convention held at Mulungushi rock of authority in Kabwe, Mutati went through unopposed. All the other NEC positions except the National secretary and women’s chairperson NEC went unopposed.

Earlier Faustina Sinyangwe was handpicked as national chairperson but Rupiah rejected her because she is a relative to late President Michael Sata and close relative to Miles Sampa and Mulenga Sata who are working with UPND.

Under the current tripartite deal leaked to the Watchdog, Mutati was expecting to be picked as Lungu’s running mate, while PF and MMD will do block voting by sharing constituencies. But the Watchdog is further informed that Chishimba Kambwili and other few Bemba’s in PF threatened to quit PF if Mutati is brought into PF like that because they want to succeed Lungu in 2021, just in case he wins this election.

The Watchdog is further informed that in spite of the threat by Bembas Lungu will still give Mutati a very key position in PF government while the likes of Kambwili will be frustrated in ‘one way or another’.

“Deliberately, Lungu picked Inonge because he wanted a weak running mate because he knows she has no following even in her home village Nalolo. But again Lungu has dribbled the Kambwili and Kalaba likes because eventually Mutati will be given a very senior position while them will face frustration in one way or the other,” said the source.

Soon after installing Mutati, Rupiah left Kabwe and boarded the ZAF chopper sent for him by Lungu, to be taken to Lusaka and straight away went to brief Lungu.
