Former president Rupiah Banda Friday evening refused to meet Roads Development Agency (RDA) Board Chairperson Willie Nsanda.
As MMD Members of Parliament were meeting to endorse Hakainde Hichilema, Nsanda was driving to the residence Mr Banda to seek support for Edgar Lungu.
A source from within the Patriotic Front said Nsanda who is Edgar Lungu’s campaign Manager went to see Rupiah Banda to seek support for Edgar Lungu but Rupiah Banda did not want to meet visitors after Nevers Mumba had visited him.
‘Nsanda actually did not even make an appointment,” the source said.
The source said with almost all the remaining MPs supporting Hakainde Hichilema, it was unlikely that RB would accept to support Edgar Lungu.
“It is unlikely. RB is very close to MP’s from Eastern Province and for them to endorse HH; it means he has also done the same. You know the PF humiliated him, they removed his immunity and dragged him to court with a charge that seems frivolous,” the source said.
The source further said that RB is aware that the Lungu team manipulated the Supreme Court to block him from standing.
The former president was informed by the intelligence that the Lungu team did not want him to stand as he would have taken Lungu’s votes in Eastern province and most rural areas.
‘RB had a stronger case because the NEC is mandated to make decisions for the party and the Courts have always said they can’t interfere in operations of clubs such as political parties but this time the court decided to impose a candidate on the MMD,’ a source explained.
The source wondered how the PF factions expects the former president to support them after what they have done to him.
