Former President Rupiah Banda this morning took fresh plea in a matter in which he is charged with with two counts one on corruptly receiving ten motor vehicles and one on concealing gratification. Rupiah Banda pleaded not guilty to both charges before Principal Resident Magistrate Obster Musukwa at the Lusaka Magistrate.
In the first count Rupiah Banda is charged with corruptly receiving ten motor vehicles valued at US$ 180,000 among them Mistubishi Canters and Toyota Toyo-aces from Segoca Zambia Limited of China in order for the company to receive favours in government contracts.
In the second charge, Rupiah Banda is charged with concealing gratification by receiving nine vehicles valued at US$180,000 from the same company and registering them in the name of Kelvin Sampa, Velesi Lute Banda and James Banda.
Earlier former Army Commander General Wisdom Lopa and former Zambia National Service Commander General Yeta who are appearing in a different court for abuse of office walked into court room 8 where Banda was to greet him and his wife Thandiwe.
Others who accompanied Rupiah to court include MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu, Civil Rights Activist Brebner Changala and Chipata Central Member of Parliament Mtolo Phiri.
