President Rupiah Banda has confirmed that he will attend the declaration of Independence for South Sudan on July 9, 2011.
Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS), minister of Information Barnaba Marial Benjamin announced on Thursday at the South Sudan Airport in the capital Juba.
Benjamin met with president Banda in Lusaka and delivered a special message from South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Benjamin delivered the same message to presidents of South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Angola who all pledged to travel to Juba to grace the South Sudan independence celebrations.
South Sudan overwhelmingly voted, by over 98 percent, for secession from the North in a referendum on self-determination held in January. The official name of the new country will be the Republic of South Sudan.
