Paramount Chief Mpezeni and other Ngoni chiefs in Eastern province must be prepared for more humiliation because former President Rupiah Banda’s tribalism which is fixing them against the Chewa people.
Speaking following the attempted arrest of the Mpezeni and the teargassing of his followers by police over the weekend, a senior policeman has told the Watchdog that the persecution of Ngoni people has Rupiah’s blessings. Rupiah blames the Mpezeni who campaigned for PF in the 2011 for his loss.
Rupiah has apparently been spearheading an uprising of his Chewa people against the Ngoni people and other tribes in Eastern province. Rupiah is Chewa and is said to have sworn hatred for the Ngoni people.
Meanwhile House of Chiefs chairperson Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II of the soli people has castigated government for the attacks on the Ngoni traditionalists. Chieftainess Nkomeshya described the attack as barbaric and demanded that PF government respects the traditional leaders.
