Defence Deputy Minister Mwenya Musenge has stated that the recently conducted recruitment exercise by the defense wings, was transparent.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Musenge said this when he paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Province Minister Davies Mwila in Ndola this morning.
Mr. Musenge said although the recruitment exercise raised a lot of suspicions, the exercise was transparent and attributed to suspicions to the high unemployment levels in the country.
“A lot has been said about the recruitment exercises which our various wings undertook, as Army we were overwhelmed by the response but let me stress that the exercise was transparent and we took the best candidates,” he said.
The Minister further added that his Ministry was grateful to President Michael Sata who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for having given a directive that the recruitment exercise be an on-going process.
He said in light of the directive, the Defence forces will again conduct other recruitment exercises.
“We are grateful to our Chief of Armed Forces, who has given us a directive that the recruitment exercises should be a continuous process, so we are expecting to conduct another recruitment exercises early next year or later this year,” he revealed.
And Copperbelt Province Minister Davies Mwila called on the Ministry of Defence to look into the issue of the number of recruits per province.
He said the Ministry should consider increasing the numbers of recruits for provinces which have a lot of school leavers like Copperbelt Province.
He further commended government for coming up with the Zambia National Service skills training programme for all grade 12 school leavers.
