Removal of Lungu’s immunity is not even UPND’s priority like PF did with RB- Lifwekelo

Removal of President Lungu’s immunity is not UPND pre- occupation or desire. Zambian must appreciate that UPND is the second largest political party in the country going by the last presidential election with divergent views.

We wish to state that the statement attributed to the removal of president Lungu’s immunity is not a party position but a mere personal opinion. The party firmly believes in the rule of law and respect of our former presidents.

We remain strongly against the removal of immunity against those that occupy the Highest Office in the land.

This is the position we took when former President Banda’s immunity was removed and President Hakainde Hichilema is on record of having stood firmly against that. UPND believes that we have enough laws in the country that can be invoked to deal with corruption and abuse of office by those occupying public office.

We shall allow the rule of law to follow those that will be found wanting and we remain committed to the fight against corruption. Under UPND there shall be no sacrificial lambs or a selective way of fighting corruption.

We wish to re- affirm that our pre – occupation for now is to provide quality leadership that will address the many social and economic challenges affecting the country. We remain committed to providing a free market economy were private sector participation is encouraged.

UPND remains committed to addressing gender imbalances and appreciate government commitment in empowering women participation in decision making. We remain committed to addressing challenges in the energy sector. Our pre- occupation is to better the lives of Zambians by addressing challenges on the high cost of Living and finding solutions to addressing the high levels of unemployment in the country. Above all we remain committed in providing quality leadership that is selfless in public office.
