Road sacrifices continue as two die in Mpika

Two people died on the spot while several others were injured in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred near Lukulu river about 170km south of Mpika distract along the great north road, last night..

ZANIS reports that both Muchinga province minister col. Jerry Chanda and Muchinga province police commissioner Remmy Kajoba has confirmed the accident) in an interview in Mpika , today.

Mr. Kajoba said the accident involving a Marco Polo Scania bus belonging to Juldan motors of Lusaka of registration number ABR 1050 which was coming from Lusaka going to Nakonde with 61 passengers on board occurred around 22:15hours last night when the bus collided head –on with unregistered Toyota Spacio car which was coming from Nakonde.

The police commissioner said that two passengers indentified as Josephine kampunda, Belemu aged 27 of Makeni in Lusaka and another male only indentified as Mumbi of an unknown address died on the spot .

Mr. Kajoba said 31 other passengers sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Chitambo and Chilonga mission hospitals in Serenje and Mpika districts respectively.

He  further said that fatalities might increase because of the serious injuries that passengers on the bus have suffered.

He added that both vehicles have been expensively damaged the two bodies of the dead passengers are currently lying at Chilonga mission hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Spacio car is currently on the run and police have since launched a man hunt.

Empty bottles of beer were found in the spacio car.

And col. Jerry Chanda has regretted the loss of lives in the Mpika accident Col. Chanda said it is unfortunately that the country has continued to lose precious lives through fatal accidents that the country has recorded in the recent past.

Col. Chanda has further directed the police to ensure that they bring to book the fugitive driver of the Toyota Spacio car that allegedly caused the accident.
