Roma girls Sch nun and Sichilongo resolve to reconcile, case discontinues

The Lusaka Magistrate Court this morning discharged the Roma Girls High School teacher, Daswell Sichilongo, over the case in which he beat up the Catholic nun and Head Teacher Sister Emma Chikupaleza.

When the case came up this morning before Magistrate Aridah Chulu, the Catholic nun, Sister Chakupaleza applied through her lawyer Dickson Jere that the case be withdrawn through reconciliation.

In discharging the case against Sichilongo, Magistrate Chulu warned him to refrain from his violent acts.

She also told Sister Chakupaleza that once the case is withdrawn, it cannot be brought back to court.

Sichilongo was arrest for assaulting a catholic nun in full view of the television cameras of disputes on rentals.

The beating caused public outcry, especially from women’s organisations that felt it was a clear case of gender-based violence.
