Former President Rupiah Banda’s endorsement of Edgar Lungu has received serious resistance in the Eastern Province forcing them to start campaigning on tribal lines.
Most people have refused to vote for Edgar Lungu because the Patriotic Front has failed the agriculture sector.
There is serious resistance. Some officials from the MMD have been dispatched by Rupiah Banda to districts in Eastern province to explain to the electorates but people are saying there is no way we can vote for a PF candidate because the PF has killed the agriculture sector.
I attended one of the meetings and the officials have since resorted to campaigning on tribal lines.
They have now resorted to campaigning on tribal lines. They are saying we are not campaigning for PF but for Edgar Lungu as an individual who comes from here.
What has made matters worse is that MMD MPs in the province have refused to go with Rupiah Banda. The MPs are busy mobilising farmers for UPND in their constituencies and so far they are doing very well. Rupiah Banda made a deal with Lungu for his personal benoefit and MPs and people are seeing through. It is only Muhabi Lungu and Rupiah’s Dora on his side.
