SACCORD advises Chiefs to be non-partisan

The Southern Africa Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director Lee Habasonda has advised Chiefs to stick to their mandate and shift from being partisan as such is not right.

Habasonda said Chiefs are supposed to be custodians of cultural heritage but it sad that they have become too involved in politics.

He said according to the electoral code of conduct, traditional rulers are not supposed to influence their subjects on whom they should elect but they should be allowed to choose their preferred candidate soothe democracy prevails.

Habasonda said it is disheartening to note that Chiefs have joined the team of those who are parading in the media and endorsing political players, adding that Chiefs are fathers and mothers of the nation and should embrace all without regards to their political affiliation.
