SACCORD Condemns Munali MP

The Southern African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has condemned Munali Member of Parliament, Mumbi Phiri’s alleged call on her counterparts to equip themselves for self-defence in case of attack from their political opponents.
SACCORD Programmes Manager Boniface Chembe said violence, in whatever form, was retrogressive and should therefore not be entertained.
Mr. Chembe told ZANIS in Lusaka today that violence is never a solution to conflicts in the country.

Mr. Chembe was commenting on calls by Mrs. Phiri to her fellow MPs to equip themselves with weapons and counter attack in case of an attack.

He said SACCORD was disappointed with the MP for allegedly promoting violence in the country when she was supposed to promote peace and reconciliation.

Mr. Chembe said people should always report matters of violence to the police who have the mandate to discipline offenders.

He said citizens should use the right channel to air their grievances other than resorting to violence.

He appealed to citizens to refrain from activities that may promote violence, adding that they must not take the law into their own hands.

Mr. Chembe further appealed to the police to provide security to all the people in the country regardless of their status or political affiliation.
