Sakeni expects police office to serve dilligently despite poor salaries

Home Affairs Minister Kennedy Sakeni has appealed to police in the country to serve with integrity and discipline despite their poor conditions of service.

Sakeni, who is well paid as minister noted that there are some bad elements that are tarnishing the image of the police force due to corrupt practices as they receive bribes from citizens.

He said law enforcement officers are supposed to fight corruption and not be perpetrators of the vice.

The minister called on Zambians to take up the fight and help rid the police force of corrupt elements as they are destroying the reputation of the organization.

He urged citizens must if possible capture and produce evidence of an officer receiving a bribe and ensure culprits are exposed and prosecuted.

Sakeni further said the onus is on the Zambian people to fight corruption by making sure that erring officers are disciplined by the relevant authorities to help reduce the scourge.
