Salsa dance getting popular in Zambia

Zambian on the Salsa dance floor

By PETER CHIKWAMPU
A DECADE ago salsa and kizomba dance and music was a nightmare to Zambians but not anymore as it has become part of daily lives of many South American music lovers.
The hosting of the salsa shows has also attracted a good following.
This was evident during a show on Saturday held at Lusaka’s Frog pub where a number of Zambians took to the dance floor to execute all the salsa dance styles that call for body flexibility.
Since the dance was introduced to most Zambians in the mid-2000s many people have fallen in love with the dance and have since enrolled for classes conducted by different salsa coaches.
With many planned classes to be conducted and the attractive prizes that are given during the national competition has helped the salsa family to grow to its height.
The love for the dance has gradually grown.
Although, it is a dance that is related to one physical exercise called aerobics, it was exciting to watch wonderfully conducted dance moves that were exhibited on the dance floor on Saturday night.
The dances were in line with the music such that there was smooth flow and order among the couples that took to the dance floor.
The show is held once a month at the same venue where the first classes started from before spreading into other areas that include schools.
