Samfya councillor defects to PF-UPND pact

Samfya Districts’ Kasongole ward Councillor Mukanga Mwansa has defected from the ruling MMD to join the PF-UPND pact.

In a statement made available to ZANIS, Mr. Mwansa said he had decided to resign from the ruling party because of pressure from the electorate in his ward over the pace of development in the area.

Mr. Mwansa said he wanted to work with the unity government of the UPND and PF in 2011 so as to effectively implement development which he claimed had stalled in his ward.

Among the reasons Mr. Mwansa put  were the poor state of  roads such as Mukanshi, Chibuye, Chalansenga via Lubwe and lack of construction of Bridges on Mubansenshi and Intandashi rivers to connect Mansa, Samfya and Luwingu districts in the western part of Kasongole ward.

He also cited as frustration the discarding of his calls to have Lubwe established as a boma in many motions he had moved in the Samfya District Council chambers, in order to develop the area.

Mr. Mwansa has since vowed to stand on the opposition ‘pact’ ticket in the 2011 local government elections as a ward councillor.
