The Patriotic Front government has sponsored a teacher’s union which has announced its formation with the support of the removal of maize and fertilizer subsidy.
The union, sponsored by President Michael Sata, is calling itself the Independent Teachers Union of Zambia and claims to be composed of a frustrated bunch of the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) that decided to have it their way.
Union interim general secretary Christopher Malipa said the decision to form the union was as a result of wrangles that have rocked ZNUT.
Malipa also announced that the new union supports government’s decision to remove fuel and maize subsidy as this will help the lifestyle of Zambians.
He said the new union will at a later stage be known as the Native Teachers Union of Zambia and that it has so far received overwhelming support.
