‘Sata is sick; his public appearances severely restricted’

Dear editor,

I am a state house official please allow me space to share my reflections in your widely read news site on the sad reality most people avoid facing and please do not publish my name am a civil servant.

It is not a secret anymore that our dear President HE MCS is suffering from PROSTRATE CANCER and a threatening heart condition which has left him alive by the will of the spirit and not his body. It is saddening to see this man face to face and to know the reality of his illness which unfortunately many have undeniably failed to come to terms with.

fellow countrymen and women, our president is sick and the requires resting away from active political life. His prostate cancer has reached an advanced stage such that urine comes out uncontrollably. A temporal measure to help in his condition is that a tube has been inserted into the urethra to collect urine into a urine bag. When he visited the Chibombo accident victims’ burial this urine collecting bag was fastened nicely and covered in his suit. Even during the famous swearing in ceremonies at state house the same strategy is used. The problem is that he cannot stay longer at any function or international gathering because the urine collection bag has limited capacity to hold urine and requires frequent changing lest it bursts and spills urine on the head of state. It is for this reason the experts thought the best way to prevent embarrassment on part of the head of state is to have controlled public exposure. The PF Government   must immediately find a replacement to the ailing head of state whose illness has reached an advanced stage. Am pretty sure the first lady has tried by all means to encourage him by not only changing his urine bag but also giving him emotional support. However this measure is temporal and somewhat costly to the nation because the head of state is expected to travel within and outside the country. HE MCS’ controlled public exposure is African’s natural tendency to hide illness.

As a state house Aide am very saddened to see the PF this way. I had hope in Sata but nature has its way.  Right now Mmembe and fellow crooks are controlling us since the Sata we knew is not who he is now.

Finally here are tips on Prostrate Cancer:

Prostate cancer is mostly a very slow progressing disease. In fact, many men die of old age, without ever knowing they had prostate cancer – it is only when an autopsy is done that doctors know it was there. Several studies have indicated that perhaps about 80% of all men in their eighties had prostate cancer when they died, but nobody knew, not even the doctor.

Symptoms of prostate cancer

During the early stages of prostate cancer there are usually no symptoms. Most men at this stage find out them have prostate cancer after a routine checkup or blood test. When symptoms do exist, they are usually one or more of the following:

  • The patient urinates more often
  • The patient gets up at night more often to urinate
  • He may find it hard to start urinating
  • He may find it hard to keep urinating once he has started
  • There may be blood in the urine
  • Urination might be painful
  • Ejaculation may be painful (less common)
  • Achieving or maintaining an erection may be difficult (less common)

If the prostate cancer is advanced the following symptoms are also possible:

  • Bone pain, often in the spine (vertebrae), pelvis, or ribs
  • The proximal part of the femur can be painful
  • Leg weakness (if cancer has spread to the spine and compressed the spinal cord)
  • Urinary incontinence (if cancer has spread to the spine and compressed the spinal cord)
  • Fecal incontinence (if cancer has spread to the spine and compressed the spinal cord)

There is nothing wrong in us saying what Sata said about Levy Mwanawasa. Nothing wrong to demand medical investigation that Sata demanded on Levy. Nothing evil to let Sata test what he made Levy taste. Nothing sinister to call for him to do his State duties. We did not vote for him to be in bed at State House. At Rhodespak House he was never in bed, why shud he now be a bedfellow on tax payers account? Bible says, the measure you use on others, shall be used on you. And what he is doing to RB, SHALL be done to him, precisely, if he survives prostrate cancer, that is. Let him live long to feel what others like FTJ, RB felt!!! Long live MCS, Long live Mr President… D.E.C and Joint International Investigation awaits you. You, the Hague shall await your arrival… Mongu killings.

Sadly patriotism by the PF to Mother Zambia is quationable. Its like the PF Gvt wants to Paralyse the opposition that in an invent of a presidential by election, all the presidents of opposition political parties, Should be found in jail & only the PF to take part in the By election.Am realy concerned because N Mumba’s arrest doesn’t make sance & that th DPP Should frame a case on HH.Coutry men, we have only one Zambia & we cant keep quite when those we entrusted responsibility to bring development which include democratic maturity begin to lead us backwards.May GOD come to our rescue. First and foremost, I salute you all for your comments regardless of your opinions. Its not false that our Leader is unwell. But some of the comments to the Head of State are really damaging and un Zambian. The old man needs alot of support from all well meaning Zambians during this time of his sickness, at the same time, its his choice whether to leave office now and live a quite life or continue having unwanted pressure that will send him to an early grave. Its entirely his choice. We the Zambian people elected him for a 5 year-mandate and he is expected to perform as a normal civil servant. But if illness holds someone from performing, the best that person can do is pave way for others to carry on. Your Excellency, its your life that matters. Take time to reflect and make that wise decision for everything is entirely in your hands. I wish you, Your Excellency, God’s wisdom as you continue to rule and reflect on your life. May you live long until Jehovah calls you home. Be blessed and remember you are in-charge of many Zmabian lives and your decisions affects them either positively of negatively. To God Be The Glory

Let me take this opportunity to chastise this individual.
Please do not take my comments to mean I am defending His Excellence or anything of that sort.
I simply wish to take a stand, because I believe that is the right thing to do!
The medical details of an individual are strictly confidential, not to be shared in the public domain, as has been done here, given they are accurate.
That is not to say, the public does not deserve the right to know how their head of any state is faring in terms of health. However, note, I said DETAILS. Hugo Chavez recently succumbed to some form of reported throat cancer. It could have been thyroid cancer, or any other form of cancer affecting the anatomical region referred as the throat. Yet at no point did we or for that matter the Venezuelans get to know extensive details like the symptoms relating to his illness or the definite type of cancer.
In the same vain, it is almost, if not criminal for this purported state house official to divulge such details, especially if he is not representing some authority that has been directed by the unwell individual to disseminate such sensitive information.
All things being equal, if the ill patient requests their details to enter the public domain, that will be a different issue. However, a more appropriate channel should be adopted rather than a faceless whistle-blower spreading such alarming information.
In this regard, it is my humble appeal to this publication, an appeal I am sure shared by many of the other readers, to carefully scrutinise and censor some of the information published.
Irrespective of the agendas one may have, it is always pertinent and prudent to relay information in a professional manner. I sure hope this concern will not fall on deaf ears. Despite journalism being investigative, in the zeal to expose the truth, it is important to uphold ethics and codes of conduct, which I am sure the profession of journalism is equally bound to as are many other professions.
I must also state that some of the information regarding prostate cancer in this article is not only erroneous, but unnecessarily alarming and misleading. Most of the early urinary symptoms alluded to are somewhat more characteristic of the rather benign condition, benign prostatic hypertrophy or hyperplasia. This is a perfectly curable condition with outstanding outcomes even in the severest of cases, as opposed to advanced prostatic cancer for which usually the treatment options are essentially palliative.
That is not to say some of the mentioned symptoms do not occur in prostate cancer. They do, but not with the frequency suggested by the above article.
Lest many of our elderly gentlemen begin self diagnosing with the information in this article, I thought it necessary to set the record straight. Of course, in the event these symptoms are experienced it will be most prudent and wise to seek expert medical opinion.

A few days ago I mentioned in my posting that His Excellency was not well. He may have uttered bad words in the past but, as human beings, we should find forgiveness in our hearts and pray for him. Let’s put politics aside and wish this man well. I think the govt can’t come out in open for fear of economic and security implications. Above all, the Presido may be in a very fragile state psychologically Please, whatever his condition, lets pray for him and wish him well.

@kenny, you are contradicting yourself.in one breath you say we are supposed to help gvt and in another you say the president works his lungs out. how? why does he work his lungs out if it’s not his responsibility to take care of national matters? in case you don’t know. citizens of a nation can not do certain things individually, things like providing defence and security, road network, social services, creating an enabling environment for conducting business or indeed self employment. that’s why a gvt is established and this gvt collects taxes from its people to provide cross cutting services. in short gvt is “employed” by the people and that gvt is overseen by the president. that’s why we blame him for all our misfortunes. its not that we are lazy as you want to believe. in fact if you knew us, u will learn that we are far more productive than you. so stop playing the sheild game and realise that SATA has a duty to the nation and not the other way round. i don’t draw a salary from gvt, why on earth should someone tell to do abcd and not SATA.
