Ailing dictator Michael Sata has ordered police in Eastern province to block opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema from holding meetings in the province.
Police sources have disclosed that Mr. Sata has personally phoned them instructing them not to allow Mr. Hichilema to hold meetings, even in-door meetings despite having notified them.
And UPND officials in Mr. Hichilema’s 15 days tour of Eastern province have also disclosed that they are having difficulties with the police as they have cancelled even the meetings where they already had permits.
“We were supposed to have in-door party meetings in Nyimba and surrounding areas. We had even informed the police and had given us a go ahead. But they have cancelled them at short notice and without any reasons. But we are determined to go ahead with our meetings with party officials with or without the police permits now. It is our democratic right,” said some UPND officials in the entourage.
Mr. Hichilema is on a 15 days tour of Eastern province to meet farmers, and party officials as part of his countrywide tour and party mobilisation.
