President Micheal Sata today warned MMD MPs serving as deputy ministers in the PF government not to use their positions to organise the former ruling party.
The President said this when he swore in Kabompo East MMD member of parliament Danny Chingimbu as deputy minister for Lands and Natural resources at State House this morning.
“Mr. Chingimbu, I have appointed you minister because the constitution of Zambia says you can appoint any member of parliament as ministers and you are a member of parliament for Kabombo. I know Kabompo very well and you need to take development to that part of North Western province… But don’t use your position to organise MMD. I should not see you driving a government vehicle to attend to party activities. If you want to organise the party, park the government vehicle and go to Nevers Mumba to get money for organising MMD,” President Sata said.
He said it felt nice to have the liberty of appointing opposition MPs as ministers.
“Wynter have you seen… have you seen how nice it is. You can just go to the opposition and appoint MPs as ministers… All the MMD MPs are coming here, they will be sworn in including Nevers Mumba, but I don’t know what job I can give him,” President Sata said mockingly.
Meanwhile President Sata warned millers against selling mealie Meal at exorbitant prices.
“The price of mealie meal is just going up and I want to warn the millers. How can you have a bag of mealie meal selling for K80, 000? I am warning the millers… Any miller who is selling mealie meal for more than K50, 000 (per 25kg bag) have their license hanging,” he said.
