Sata sends Patrick Mwanawasa to gauge popularity in Mazabuka

Patriotic Front president Michael Sata has sent Patrick Mwanawasa to Mazabuka district of the Southern province to access his popularity ahead of this year’s elections.

PF sources informed the Watchdog that Sata is not ready to waste time and resources in areas where his popularity is uncertain and would rather spend time in areas where he is gaining support ahead of the elections this year.

The source said the PF leader is not happy with the situation in Southern province where the party has failed to find credible people to contest as Members of Parliament ahead of the elections this year.

“During some meetings we had in Chipata, president Sata informed us that he was not happy with the current situation in the province (Southern province) and indicated that he was not ready to waste time and resource in an area where change seems to be a difficult route to follow,” said the source.

The source disclosed that it was after a heated debate that Given Lubinda suggested to allow Patrick Mwanawasa who has no position in the party to travel to Southern province and see what was going on before the decision could be made.

“Lubinda suggested that Patrick should travel to Southern province. They want to use the boy to have meetings with youths in the province and to beg to vote for Sata before the president could finally go there,” said the source.

PF sources said it was after the suggestion by Lubinda that Sata sanctioned Patrick who was not in attendance to travel to Mazabuka to meet party officials and also hold meetings with youths in the district.

The PF source said the party has had difficulties in finding credible people to contest in most constituencies in the province and the visit by Patrick would boast The morale of those that still doubt the PF.
