Sata snubs Chipolopolo boys opting for family wedding

President Michael Sata yesterday snubbed an important national function of honouring the Zambia national team as free-men-of-Lusaka-city as he opted to wine and dine with family members at a wedding of his niece Maria Yamba who got married to Suwilanji Simutenda.

Maria is daughter to Secretary to the Treasury, Fredson Yamba and Sally Yamba Kaseba. See story here

Mr. Sata’s wife, Dr. Christine Kaseba, and Fredson Yamba’s wife are sisters in what is commonly referred to as family forest government.

The Chipolopolo boys, who are African soccer champions, were yesterday conferred free-men-of-Lusaka-city at the Civic centre grounds where the president was expected to be guest of honour.

The President’s speech was read by Minister of Local Government and Housing Emily Kabanshi.

Sata said the Chipolopolo’s achievement is undoubtedly outstanding and commended LCC for the gesture.

The honour which is one of the highest in the land has been conferred to eminent citizens such as Dr Kenneth Kaunda, the late former presidents Levy Mwanawasa and Frederick Chiluba as well as former South African president Nelson Mandela in recognition of their distinguished services they have rendered.
