Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni-speaking people of Eastern Province on Friday shifted from Emphendukeni palace to Laweni in readiness for the Nc’wala traditional ceremony that starts Saturday.
ZWD journalists in Chipata report that OP agents have been trekking in the town from Thursday and have taken over most lodges.
Sata is expected to fly in Saturday morning.
This will be the first traditional ceremony Sata will be attending in a long time since he avoids such due to his suspected witchcraft beliefs or practices.
Sata also avoids graveyards but is usually very fast to attend prayers of deceased public figures but never reaches the burial sites except in very rare occasions.
But with dwindling political support even in Northern province, Sata will now risk everything to make sure he has some support in Eastern Province.
His cadre and fellow outpatient Mpezeni will be on handy to praise him.
In the past when Zambia was respected in the region, the Nchwala was an international event that attracted presidents from South Africa, Mozambique and Malawi.
But this years’ Ncwala has been reduced to a PF parade, which even opposition leaders have shunned.
