Sata tries to trivialise matter of single sourcing company renovating State House

President Michael Sata says he does not have details of the contract to renovate State House.

On November 12, 2011, Gregory Chifire told the Watchdog that farmers across the country had not been paid for the Crops they supplied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) because the Patriotic Front (PF) Government diverted money meant to pay farmers for the 2010/2011 farming season to give Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda’s Company Apollo Enterprises that was corruptly awarded a tender to refurbish State House.

But president Sata tried to trivialise the matter on Thursday but saying that he does not know where cement is coming from.

He was speaking at State House when he swore in the group he calls ‘committee of experts’ tasked to draft the new Republican Constitution.

Sata also accused UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema of putting a full page advert in one of the newspapers to the effect that Sata single sourced Appolo to rehabilitate State House.

Last week, Vice president Guys Scott said government will issue a statement on which company is renovating State House.

This followed revelations that Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda’s company Apollo Enterprises has been single sourced and awarded contracts to renovate State House and other government buildings.

Nalikwanda MP Geoffrey Lungwangwa asked Scott in parliament to tell the
House which contractor had been engaged to renovate State House.

In response, Scott said a comprehensive statement will be
issued by the minister of Works. He did not say when it will be issued.

President Sata is still staying at his private house in Rhodes Park because State House is undergoing renovations.
