VICE President Dr. Guy Scott says the 2016 tripartite elections will be difficult.
And PF Masaiti District Chairperson Stardy Mwale is the new Copperbelt provincial chairperson after defeating the Fred Mmembe and Wynter Kabimba sponsored candidate Richard Musukwa.
Mr. Mwale polled 293 votes against his closed contender Richard Musukwa who managed to poll 222 votes.
Meanwhile, Chairperson for elections Silver Masebo said Copperbelt is a vital province in the politics of PF as the party cannot exist without it.
Dr. Scott has since urged Patriotic Front (PF) members to elect credible leaders for unity and progress of the party.
ZANIS reports that the Vice President said this during the official opening of the PF Conference at Hindu Hall in Ndola where members elected the new Copperbelt Province Executive today.
Dr. Scott disclosed that no aspiring candidate participating in the elections has been endorsed by the president, the Vice President or the Secretary General.
He singled-out Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili as merely a noisemaker who thinks he can succeed president Michael Sata.
He instead said that they should vote for leaders who will take the party forward and see that President Michael Sata wins the 2016 tripartite elections.
And Chairperson for elections Silver Masebo said Copperbelt is a vital province in the politics of PF as the party cannot exist without it.
Ms. Masebo described the atmosphere in the province as good saying there has been discipline among all the contenders and all those supporting them.
She also urged delegates not to look at the list of people taking part in the election but to look at people who can perform for the party in the province saying without Copperbelt there cannot be PF.
After elections, Masaiti District Chairperson Stardy Mwale emerged as the new Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt provincial chairperson to head new provincial executive ushered into office.
Mr. Mwale defeated the Fred Mmembe and Wynter Kabimba sponsored candidate Richard Musukwa by polling 293 votes against poll 222 votes which Musukwa got.
The Post newspaper yesterday went to great length campaigning for Musukwa, who is also Mines deputy minister, by praising his leadership skills.
But reports from Ndola are that almost the entire list of candidates sponsored by Kabimba and Mmembe tumbled to the team sponsored by Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili.
In the women’s wing Hildah Kawesha won the position of chairlady with 177 votes against her rival Mary Banda who is the former chairlady for Copperbelt who managed 113 votes.
In the youth wing Luashya mayor Nathan Chanda has won the position of youth chairperson with 337 votes against Jonas Kalyati who polled 140 votes.
There was jubilation after Mr. Mwale led team managed to win all the positions except for the position of Vice youth Information and Publicity Secretary which was won by Mr. Musukwa’s team.
Later Kambwili said he is happy that his team headed by Mr. Mwale had won the elections.
He said the previous executive was selfish and caused a lot of problems in the province for the PF party.
And police sources at the center said the elections were generally violent free but confirmed that six cadres who were causing confusion during the elections had been detained.
