Scott dismisses petition to adopt Lungu-General Congress to choose candidate

Acting President Guy Scott has dismissed the petition to the central committee to adopt Edgar Lungu as the PF sole candidate for the forth coming presidential by-election.
Scott said the party will not be forced to make decisions through intimidation and disorder and has since issued instructions to commence preparations for the general congress scheduled for 29th November 2014 at Mulungushi Rock of authority in Kabwe.
He said the PF candidate must be selected through a democratic process that will allow a large number of members scrutinise candidates and added that a popularly elected candidate through the national congress will enjoy the support of majority members and unite the party.
The meeting that endorsed Lungu was attended by 63 members of parliament but it is not clear whether all the 63 signed the petition. Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili is among ministers who were against choosing the candidate through the central committee. Kambwili was part of the meeting but refused to talk to the press after the meeting.
And Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo has accused the Fred Mmembe cartel of having been waiting for Sata’s death so that they take over power.
Luo told journalists that it was clear from the manner some members were behaving that they had just been waiting for president Sata to die.
