Secondary schools teachers worried with salary delay

Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ)  has asked the PF government to explain  why teachers’ salaries are delayed.

SESTUZ copperbelt province chairman Andrew Mukanga said teachers in the province are concerned about the delays   in getting their salaries.
“As per tradition, teachers are supposed to be getting their salaries on the 17th or 18th of every month,” he said.
Mr Mukanga added that late payment of salaries was bringing about anxieties among teachers adding that in many cases teachers were even failing to plan for their money properly.
He said salaries should be paid to teachers on time as one way of motivating them.
Meanwhile some teachers said late payment of salaries is likely to affect not only the performance of teachers but also the academic performance of pupils in class.
“I think government, should work on this matter seriously, salaries should be paid on time,” said one of the teachers who declined to be named.
He said if salaries are not paid on time, the PF government will lose its popularity and confidence people have put the government.
“We just hope things will improve, we trust the situation is not going to be worsened, because we have trust in this government,” added.
