As the battle for succession intensifies in the ruling PF, some senior party leaders have been accused of sponsoring students from Evelyn Hone College and University of Zambia to denounce party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba and call for his removal from the party’s chief executive position.
Kabimba’s continued occupation as Secretary General as well as Justice Minister has not gone well with some senior party leaders who feel he has now been given an advantage in the race to succeed President Michael Sata.
Kabimba is also the Board Chairman of the recently nationalised state owned Zamtel.
Lusaka province PF chairman told a press briefing that he was aware of senior party leaders agitating for Kabimba’s removal as Secretary General and warned them to stop.
Mr. Chumbwe did not name the senior party members but Watchdog understands that Defence Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba, who is also campaigning to succeed Sata, is among the people threatened by Kabimba’s two powerful positions.
Others eyeing to succeed Sata, who constitutionally still qualifies for another 5 year term in office, are Youth and Sports Minister, Chishimba Kambwili as well as Foreign Affairs Minister, Given Lubinda.
And Lusaka province PF youth Chairman, Kennedy Kamba, yesterday led a group of fellow party in severely beating up their colleagues at the party secretariat.
The youths who have since reported the matter to Emmasdale Police station were taken to UTH for medication.
