United National Independence Party (UNIP) president Tilyenji Kaunda has condemned the decision by PF government officials to increase their salaries by 100 per cent.
President Sata’ Salary was increased twice between April and June 2012.
Tilyenji was quoted by Radio Phoenix Sunday morning saying that the PF leaders should realise that they were voted to serve the people who elected them.
Tilyenji, the only son of first president Kenneth Kaunda who is not part of the PF regime, said the PF should not widen further the gap between the poor people and rulers.
He said while earning a lot of money is not bad, government leaders should first serve the ordinary people before serving themselves.
Tilyenji said the increase of salaries for government officials was made at the wrong time when most people are suffering.
He said currently prices of staple food like meallie meal and bread are rising and people are suffering.
