Councilors in Livingstone have suspended the mayor Joram Mwinda.
Mr. Mwinda is being investigated by police for allegedly raping an unnamed woman.
Last week on Wednesday Mr Mwinda denied raping a woman when he was interviewed by the Post.
Mr. Mwinda was quoted as explaining that the woman in question was his girlfriend and that he did not rape her.
Mr. Mwinda, who did not disclose the woman’s name, said the whole incident had been blown out of proportion.
Local government minister Ben Tetamashimba then ordered the Livingstone City Council to call for a special council meeting to suspend Mwinda until he were cleared of allegations of rape.
