PF losing Katuba constituency candidate Jonas Shakafuswa has blamed the police for the teargas which was released by an overzealous police officer during the CAF under 20 semi final match between Zambia and South Africa at Heroes stadium on Sunday, after PF cadres who were promised free entry to stadium were denied entry.
On his facebook handle, Shakafuswa says “it was very unfortunate that an international game watched by HE the President and several local and international guests could be interrupted because the police used teargas for crowd control.”
Shakafuswa, a drinking partner of Lungu has rubbished Police explanation of what led to the use of teargas saying it lacks merit and professionalism because it is well known that teargas is wind driven. In her press statement, police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo said that it was imperative to use teargas because the crowd became unruly and started throwing objects at the police officers but Shakafuswa insists that the police have to account for their shortcoming.
Meanwhile, information reaching the Watchdog is that the unruly fans were mainly PF cadres who had earlier been promised that they will be granted free entry at half time so as to boost the support for the junior Chipolopolo boys. After the teargas Zambia’s Edward Chilufya took his team to a 1-0 lead.
The cadres took advantage of Lungu’s presence and wanted to force themselves into the stadium but were repelled by police.
