Shamenda says PF has so far created 300 000 jobs

shamendaMORE than 300,000 jobs have so far been created since the Patriotic Front (PF) formed government in 2011, Labour and Social Security Minister, Fackson Shamenda has said.
The total jobs created were 316,089, with the tourism sector accounting for the highest jobs created at 218,244 representing 69.1 per cent.
Mr Shamenda said in a bid to fulfill its pact with the Zambian people, the PF was committed to continue creating more jobs for the people.
Mr Shamenda, who is acting Chief Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said during a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the jobs were created directly and indirectly through effective implementation of policies, projects, programmes and activities under the current administration.
He said tourism was one of the sectors that had been targeted for job creation and that it was, therefore, gratifying and encouraging to see the figures increase.
He said the figures would shoot up, especially after the hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference being co-hosted with Zimbabwe.
He said this had proved that President Michael Sata meant well when he declared Livingstone as the tourist capital.
Other sectors that experienced a boom in jobs created were the electricity, gas and water sectors which accounted for 27,369 representing 8.7 per cent.
