K55,000 was spent on clothes for labour minister Fackson Shamenda, his two deputies and a Permanent secretary during the 2013 labour day celebrations, the Auditor General’s report reveals.
The report reveals that while K55,000 was spent on four officials, K50,000 was spent on all other remaining ministry officials’ attire but a source from the ministry has told the Watchdog that most of the officials contributed money towards their attire.
The breakdown of the expenditure means over K13,500 was spent on each official’s attire including Shamenda who is also jokingly known as the dirtiest minister by some people due to his poor appearance.
Meanwhile an official from the ministry of labour says while other logistics are met by the ministry, most of the times they have been required to contribute some money to buy uniform attire and has totally rubbished the K50,000 claimed to have been spent on them.
“Mostly we buy the attires for ourselves, we are asked to contribute and then look for a tailor to do the clothes. It is utter rubbish for them to abuse money and later claim that they bought us clothes,” said the official.
