Shortage of TB Prevention Vaccine for Infants spreads to UTH

The shortage of Bacillus Calmette–Guérin commonly known as BCG, the vaccine for the prevention of Tuberculosis in infants has persisted affecting the Country’s highest health referral centre, the University Teaching Hospital.

The vaccine shortage started on the Copperbelt towns two weeks ago.

Mothers are worried that the longer the vaccine is made available the more congestion clinics may experience once the vaccine is available.

By broadcast time efforts to get a comment from the ministry of community development mother and child health failed as officials capable of handling press queries under the child health department were reportedly out of Lusaka attending the United Nations World Tourism Organization –UNWTO- conference.
