Sidelined PF MP for Kabwata Given Lubinda says PF members spearheading the endorsement of President Michael Sata’s candidature for 2016 have interests to take over from him and want to appear like champions.
He was quoted by the PF vuvuzela.
And Willie Nsanda says he is not part of those endorsing President Sata as a candidate for 2016. Kasama PF member of parliament Geoffrey Mwamba has persistently been endorsing President Sata and on Saturday, he told PF cadres in Mongu that the President would be the sole candidate for the party in 2016.
The PF in Chipata, Southern Province and Luangwa district have also endorsed President Sata as the sole candidate for the 2016 general elections. But Vice-President Dr Guy Scott on Friday revealed that President Sata was displeased with people who were endorsing him as presidential candidate for 2016.
In an interview, Lubinda who is Kabwata PF member of parliament, said those endorsing President Sata had realised that their plans of taking over from him had suffered a setback and were now trying to make things appear different. “It has never been an issue.
“Who has ever stood up to say President Sata must only run for one term? Of course those who have brewing interest and have been thinking ah! no! I should prepare myself to take over. It is they who are actually saying, Ah, yazandabola manje the game plan is not favourable let us show that vintu vili things are different,” he said.
Lubinda said there was no reason for what he termed as melodrama of endorsing President Sata. He said President Sata was just clocking two years in office and to go round endorsing him for another term was as though there was an impression that he would be a one-term president.
“My honest suspicion is that there might be some people who were going round leaving messages as though President Sata would only run for one term.
Now that they have realised that the man is doing so very well and nobody will allow that he goes for only one term, now they want to turn around and appear like they are champions, no!” he said.
Lubinda said the endorsements were unnecessary, adding that President Sata should be allowed to work. He said to keep talkinga bout endorsements would put the whole country in campaign gear and mood.
“There is no reason for that. Instead let us make sure that we do what is right so that it is easy for President Sata to perform. Once he performs to the full satisfaction of the Zambian people, there will be no arguments whatsoever. I don’t think there is need for any kind of doubt or any kind of argument.
As far as I am concerned, President Sata will be judged by what he does and so far he has shown that he is doing what the people want. He is providing what he was promising the people. Let us not waste time on endorsements. Instead let us encourage the man to perform to the best of his ability. Let us not distract him by telling him that we are endorsing him for 2016.
What we must make sure we do is to deliver. We must make sure we give him the support,” Lubinda said. He said the day he decided to follow President Sata, he was convinced that he had the capacity to run thefull length of two terms that was allowed constitutionally.
Lubinda said he had always believed that President Sata had the capacity, ingenuity and tact to be in the leadership of the country for not less than the full term that was allowed in the Constitution.
“I always pray to God that He gives him wisdom for him to continue to lead this country and spearhead it to greater heights,” said Lubinda.
And addressing party youths during a meeting in Chirundu on Saturday, Nsanda who is PF chairman fortransport, said President Sata was eligible to contest the 2016 general elections.
“We only have one President and that President is Michael Chilufya Sata and that’s our candidate in 2016. There’s no need to endorse anyone,” he said. Nsanda was reported to be one of those pushing for the endorsement of President Sata for 2016.
And Nsanda said the party should reject people that joined it at the last minute seeking to become members of parliament. He said the party should start identifying leaders now and not wait for 2016.
“Don’t accept those that come at the last minute to become members of parliament. Start identifying now; my job as campaign manager is to win elections. PF has no boundaries.Bring more members; as campaign manager we only have one President for 2016,” Nsanda said.
