IF it’s possible to use my back power to get to the top, why are you using yours to get to the bottom, energy minister Dora Siliya asked the audience during a women empowerment seminar on Thursday.
Speaking during the PF-organised event held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Siliya, who is also Petauke Central PF member of parliament, said many young women wonder how she manages to rise in politics, amid numerous accusations and criticism.
“For me, why am I here today? In the last few years that I have been in politics, a lot of young women have come to me and asked ‘how do you do it? How do you get into politics? How do you manage? How can I become a minister one day? How can I be a councillor? How is it done? And I realised that there was a vacuum there, and that we needed to do something,” Siliya said.
“In fact, one woman, young lady came to me and she said, ‘but how do you manage even with all these insults’, you know? And she said they have just written on the Internet. They are saying that Dora always uses her ‘back power’ to get to the top and I said ‘well, why would you be using your back power to get to the bottom? I mean, really if it is possible to use my back power to get to the top, why are you using yours to get to the bottom? I said there must be something wrong with your thinking, isn’t it?”
