Sinda residents fight with Tasila Lungu over reserve forest, Mukuka trees

Residents in Sinda have been running battles with representatives of Tasila Lungu.

Recently, Tasila fenced off the forest and Police have been manning the area arresting anyone who trespasses through it.

There are unconfirmed reports that President Lungu recently degazzetted the forest.

Chimutengo Forest is a watershed area and is a source feeding streams and rivers.

People in the area have also depended on it for livelihood.

Recently an american environmental organisation has named President Edgar Lungu, Tasila, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Jean Kapata and Given Lubinda as the cartel being behind the high depletion of hardwoods, Mukula, rosewood, and Zambezi tic hardwoods in Zambia.

Environmental Investigative Agency(EIA) said they have documents to show that the cartel has been exporting 50 containers every month under the special licence issued by the state owned forest company, ZAFFICCO since 2017.
