Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula deliberately missed nominations as a protest for not picked as Edgar Lungu’ s running mate, the Watchdog has been reliably informed.
And it has now been officially confirmed as evidenced by the signed list below that general education minister John Phiri has been excluded from standing in Lundazi. Phiri was supposed to be the PF candidate.
‘Don’t be cheated by the outward silence over the adoption of Inonge Wina as running mate, MPs in PF especially from the North are very angry and upset but no one is willing to state so publicly,’ a PF MP from Luapula told the Watchdog.
According to the MP Simbyakula feels personally betrayed by Lungu as he, like many others were assured that they would be picked as running mate. Siyambyakula had all this time wrongly believed that he was the most trusted member of Lungu’ s inner circle since he was the first person Lungu appointed as minister.
The MP explained that Simbyakula had not applied to be adopted but only did that reluctantly after Lungu announced that his mate would be Wina.
The MP said most MPs in the Northern part of the country and Luapula have decided to each campaign for himself as MP but only mention Edgar Lungu once in a while.
The MP explained that MPs from that area feel that Lungu is ungrateful and is sidelining Bembas as advised by Rupiah Banda. The MP said everyone knows that Lungu will get almost nothing from Western province as Wina has no influence except in her nuclear familiar but was picked as running mate just to spite Bembas and make sure the presidency eludes them for decades to come.
The MP said it was now evident that if Lungu would win, it would be because of the votes he would get from Bemba dominated provinces but wondered why Lungu has suddenly developed hatred for Bembas.
‘Do you honestly think that a seasoned lawyer and Justice minister like Dr Simbyakula does not know the rules relating to filing in nominations or that he had no transport,’ the MP asked.
‘Simbyakula might not be Bemba but that shows you the level of anger at Lungu’ s treachery. We are not fools. We are only careful,’ said the MP.
Meanwhile the United Party for National Development has already won several local government seats in Eastern and Northern provinces where the PF failed to file in. One of the seats is in Sinda in Eastern and one in Lundazi.
And Radio Mano reports that the Patriotic Front-PF has failed to field two ward councillors in Kasama’s Lukashya Constituency.
Confirming the development to Mano News years day ; Kasama District Electoral Officer, Godwin Chinoya named the two wards as Chumba where a UPND candidate, Michael Mutale has since gone unopposed and Musowa ward which is being contested by UPND’s Chipalo Kaela and FDD’s Michael Chama.
Mr. Chinoya stated that the PF hopeful for Chumba Ward did not have certified academic papers and other copies, while the PF aspirant for Musowa Ward went to a wrong centre and that by the time he went to the right one; he did not have required the supporters.
The filing-in of nominations for the local government was held yesterday ahead of the August 11, 2016 general elections.
Kasama Central Constituency has eight wards while Lukashya Constituency has nine wards.
