President Edgar Lungu has admitted that some solar milling plants under the presidential milling initiative have become white elephants.
He said this today during the quarterly presidential cluster reporting at which he demanded to be provided with answers by provincial ministers on the state of the solar powered milling plants.
The project was set up in 2015 at a total cost of US $200 million funded through a loan from the China Development Bank (CDB).
Of the total project fund, CBD provided US$170 million while US$30 million was the contribution from the Zambian government.
The milling machines were procured from a Chinese company and the plants are being run by the Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF).
