Soldiers in the Zambia National Service (ZNS) have been urged to remain loyal to the government of the day even as the nation goes to the polls in 2011.
Officiating at the ZNS officers’ annual ball in Choma last night, Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Air officer commanding for Livingstone, Brigadier General Dan Banda, said men in uniform are expected to remain royal to the government of the day during and after the 2011 elections.
He told the gathering that included Choma Mayor Tenson Hajongoola that loyalty to the government of the day by soldiers must be maintained at cost.
Dr. Banda said defence personnel are expected to be non –partisan in the discharge of their duties because of the fundamental role they have in defending and preserving peace in the nation.
He said it is gratifying that the ZNS has upheld the government mandate of producing food for the nation as well as providing other vital services to the community.
He said the defence wing has been involved in dam and road construction in an effort to better the living standards of the rural populace.
Dr Banda commended the ZNS officers in Choma for conducting themselves in a professional manner during the year 2009, urging them to continue with the same spirit in the ensuing year.
