Solwezi man arrested for extorting money from KCM CEO by pretending to be Sata

Police is Solwezi say they have arrested a 35 year old man who has been extorting man from (KCM) Chief Executive Officer Kishore Kumar by claiming that he is president Michael Sata.

According to North-Western province Commissioner of Police Eugene Sibote, the man has been calling Kumar and verbally telling him to deposit the money in account number  0101887188900 held at Standard Chartered bank in Solwezi.

Sibote says Sunday Mukanani of house number 224 Kazomba compound in Solwezi, a Stores man at First Quantum Mining Operations (FQMO) has been charged with impersonating Sata and receiving money by false pretences.

Sibote said sometime in September, the suspect directed Kumar on phone to deposit K 200,000. Mr Sibote said the money was deposited and Mukanani used it to buy a Toyota Avensis registration number ALK 6231 and Toyota Premio corona registration number ACM 9448, a residential plot, assorted building materials and household goods which have since been seized.

He said after realizing that the money was about to run out he again called Kumar and directed him to deposit another K 400,000 in the same account.

He said it was then that Kumar became suspicious and reported the matter to police in Chingola who instituted investigations into the matter.

Sibote however did not say in whose name the account was held.

The PF government revoked KCM Chief Executive Officer Kishore Kumar’s work permit and said they will not allow him to enter Zambia again.

The Watchdog is just wondering why this matter is being revealed now? Is Kumar threatening to say the truth? Is Kumar so dull that he could just go and deposit money just because someone on phone claimed he was president Michael Sata?
