Some of the recently recruited teachers have not been placed on the government pay roll and missed the December earnings. They may even miss the earnings for the next four or five months as government is trying to squeeze them into replacement category because there is no money to pay them as newly recruited officers.
In Lufwanyama district alone, over 25 teachers have been affected in spite of them being allocated the TS numbers and being posted to different schools. To avoid embarrassment, government has directed District education Board secretaries (DEBS) to shunt the teachers into some remote schools without payments. The teachers have also been told that they have only been spared because it is an election year.
The teachers affected in Lufwanyama have been sent to the following schools and we challenge government to refute this then we will produce their TS numbers and the December pay roll: St. Mary’s secondary, Mulilo secondary, Lumanto secondary, Lufwanyama secondary, St. Joseph Secondary, Kambilombilo secondary, Shibuchinga primary, Mpopo and Mulilo primary among others.
And sources from both the ministries of finance and education have disclosed to the Watchdog that the non payment of salaries was a countrywide problem which has been forawrded to the relevant ministries. they have confirmed that salaries for the affected workers may not be there for the next four or five months.
