Sondashi trashes Post lies, I never said Sata’ salary increment reasonable; its wrong

Screen Shot 2013-10-19 at 14.00.17I write to respond to the article of the Post News Paper dated 19th October 2013 reported on page 4 entitled “Sata salary reasonable –Sondashi”. I am quoted out of context. The position of my answer to this question was not that the increment of 10% being awarded was reasonable. My emphasis was that because of Mr. Sata’s stand against salary increments for former Presidents and Member of Parliaments in both Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda’s government and because of his election promises against increase of salaries of politicians, he should have stood for that promise. His turn around to receive salary increments together with other politicians is totally wrong.
This raises issues of credibility and consistence by the Head of State showing that he can not be relied upon the promises he continues making. I stated that what is at issue is not whether or not President Sata’s salary was the lowest in the region but that he should be shown to be a person that honors what he says and therefore he should have declined to receive salary increment during his first term of office.
I further stated that the condition of service of President Sata was that he gets free food and free everything including medical attention which means that he can not be in a hurry to demand salary increment. I demand that Post News Paper clarify the issue clearly. Another issue requiring clarification is that it looks like some news media are deliberately combining the issue of salary increment of judges and other constitutional office holder together with salaries of politicians in order to confuse the general public. Because I do not see any need why politicians and the President should be referred to as constitutional office holders. Strictly speaking people referred to as constitution office holders are people like Judges, Attorney General, Solicitor General and Director of Public Prosecutions e.t.c and not politicians. Politicians are just being brought in, in order to hide them in the title of constitutional office holders so that they can benefit through blinding them up with constitutional holders. As it is statutory instrument numbers 91 and 92 categorically are distinct from statutory instrument dealing of constitutional office holders. So avoid joining constitutional office holders with politicians when discussing salary increments.
