Compromised Speaker of National Assembly Patrick Matibini has unceremoniously disbanded his Kangaroo court that was meant to punish selected opposition MPs plus some opposition leaders Hakainde Hichilema and Nason Msoni, over constitution making process.
The disbanding of the so called disciplinary committee follows a strong challenge from Mazabuka MP Garry Nkombo to the office of the speaker that the whole exercise was a sham.
Mr. Nkombo, who is also UPND whip, agued that according to the parliamentary standing orders, there was supposed to a select committee to constitute a disciplinary committee, which the office of the speaker did not follow.
According to documents obtained from the Speaker’s office, the UPND parliamentarian wondered why he was being excluded even from the cases that did not involve him.
And opposition MPs are set to petition the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) to excuse Zambia from hosting the IPU General Conference in 2016 due to the mutilation of democracy and human rights in Zambia.
