Speaker of the National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwaambwa Wednesday suspended Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Central member of Parliament Guy Scott for 30 days.
Scott, who is also the PF vice-president, has been suspended for breaching parliamentary privileges following a letter he caused to be published in the pro-PF newspaper, the Post.
Scott wrote an open letter to PF Chililabombwe MP Esther Banda in which he said the clerk of the Select Committee should publicise its proceedings on the scrutiny of Ireen Mambilima, the recycled Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson.
Scott told Banda to persuade the committee to ensure that all proceedings concerning Justice Mambilima’s appointment are in the public domain.
But Speaker Mwanamwambwa said Scott’s conduct was a mockery and was demeaning to the House.
“In accordance with the decision of the House, you are suspended from the services of the National Assembly, accordingly. I now order that you leave the chamber through the main entrance on a 30-day suspension as resolved by the House,” said Mwanamwambwa.
The suspension means that Scott will not receive his salary and allowance for the period of the suspension
